Community Outreach

ImpactWeather has been a strident supporter of Impact A Hero since its inception in 2004. Through multiple fundraising events and outstanding morale-raising operations such as offshore fishing trips, vacations, nights out on the town and sporting events, Impact A Hero provides substantial emotional and financial support to severely wounded and disabled veterans of the War on Terror, as well as to their families. Find out more about this outstanding organization that helps restore so much to the very best among us.
Since the very genesis of ImpactWeather, we’ve sought to inspire younger generations to explore careers in science by teaching meteorology classes to elementary, middle school and senior high school students, presiding over science fairs, making presentations at career fairs and producing segments of “ImpactWeather TV” to simultaneously broadcast live weather presentations to dozens of classrooms. ImpactWeather also host tours of our Operations and Broadcast facilities to school groups and Scout troops. Our goal is one new outstanding meteorologist generated for each event and, based on the myriad thank-you notes we receive each year, we’re right on track.

ImpactWeather maintains a dynamic internship program in the spirit of fostering mentorship in the various aspects of professional meteorology. Meteorology students from all over the U.S. travel to Houston each summer to engage in one- and two-week internships during which they not only learn about but are able to engage in elements of ImpactWeather’s StormWatch, MarineWatch, TropicsWatch and Broadcast Meteorology divisions. Students gain valuable and practicable experience which enables them to perform better in their studies and function as more superior meteorologists in their careers.
